Abstract
The article addressed various issues related to the definition of the term “investment” in the bilateral and multilateral investment treaties. The definitions provided in these treaties may be divided into several groups. The author discusses possible approaches to interpretation of definitions from each of the groups. In particular, the ordinary meaning of the notion of “investment” plays an important role in interpreting many of these definitions.
